A Steam-Away is a great investment from the standpoint of saving time and fuel. You can achieve as much as 75% more efficiency with a Steam-Away over just using your evaporator by its self.
What a Steam-Away does is simple, but how it does it is a little more complicated. In short a Steam-Away removes water with otherwise wasted heat from your flue pan. A Steam-Away is made to fit tight on the flue pan of your evaporator. The Steam-Away uses the steam that the flue pan creates to pre-heat and evaporate the cold sap that is coming into the Steam-Away. At the same time air is being forced into the bottom of the unit and blown through the raw sap. This action creates a larger surface area for the heat to come in contact with and also breaks the sapÃ¢ÂÂs surface to let more steam escape. Cold sap enters the Steam-Away and approximately 200 degree sap, which is also more concentrated, leaves the Steam-Away and enters your evaporator ready to be finished. The Steam-Away will provide all the sap that your evaporator needs, so no more cold sap is introduced into the evaporator. If you have an external float box on your evaporator, no changes will need to be made to it except to support the Steam-Away. Sap will flow through your evaporator as usual from the float box on, and you will notice a huge increase in the amount of syrup you are making per hour. Up to 75% more than before the Steam-Away was added.
In only a few years this unit can pay for itself with the amount of time you save, by cooking shorter hours, and in the amount of fuel you save. You will use the same amount of fuel that you were using before with your evaporator, but now with a Steam-Away you will be cooking as much as 75% more syrup in the same amount of time. What could be better than having extra time to tend to other important elements of your sugar bush.
